MeasuringWill it fit? There are a couple of ways to find out. The following will help you decide which length is right for you.
The simplest way is to measure a bracelet that you already have that fits. Measure it from end to end noting how the clasp fits together.
Another way is to measure with a flexible cloth tape measure (the kind used for sewing), or a piece of string, ribbon, or a strip cut from a sturdy paper bag. If you use string, make sure it is not the kind that stretches or gives when pulled taut, as it won't give you an accurate measurement. Either make a mark on the paper strip, or put a knot at one end of the ribbon or string. Wrap the string around your wrist just below the wrist bone (where you would wear a watch). Note where the string crosses or meets the knot or mark. Place the string (or whatever you're using) along a ruler, and viola! You have your wrist measurement. Still one more thing to do. Add about 1" to your wrist measurement to allow for flexibility in your bracelet; a little less if the bracelet is only a delicate chain, a little more if the bracelet is made using large size beads. Usually ¼" is good for the fudge factor-¼" less or ¼" more.
| Bracelet Sizes | |
|---|---|
| Age/Size | Measurement |
| 4-5 yrs | 6" |
| 6-7 yrs | 6 ½" |
| 8-12 yrs | 6 ¾" |
| Adult Medium/Standard | 7" |
| Adult Large, or Bracelet with Large Beads | 7 ½" |
| Adult XL | 8" |
The simplest way is to measure a necklace that you already have that hangs where you want it to. Measure it from end to end noting how the clasp fits together. In other words, don't measure the part of the clasp that is inside its connecting piece.
The other way is to use a string or ribbon. Knot one end of the string, and then wrap it around your neck with your index and middle fingers under the knot. Pinch where the far end crosses over the knot. Remove the string and lay it along a ruler. That is your choker size. It's a good idea to know your choker size even if you don't wear chokers as it will help you compare it with other necklace sizes.
While wearing a necklace note, where it lays against your collarbones and then where the lowest part of the necklace is on your chest. You want to make sure that the beads that lay against your collarbones are not too big or heavy to be uncomfortable. Realize that a pendant necklace will hang lower than a necklace without a pendant, as the pendant will usually pull the necklace down a little lower.
